Teaching English is a terrible task. I say this because it is not something that one can really teach per se. You can impart the skills, and the know-how, but at the end of the day, if the student does not implement what you have recommended into his everyday life, there is no way he/she can ever improve. That being said, sometimes, it is also the individuals' environment which determines his/her linguistic 'resources'. Sighz...
I shall now share with you a sample paragraph from my tuition kid's latest composition. Bear in mind that this is the same guy who spelt 'ears', as 'YEARS'. It's hilarious, of course, but it's still extremely disturbing to see a Secondary 3 student, who has supposedly been through 9 years of our great nation's education system, produce work like this:
Essay topic: Describe some sounds that you like, and why they mean so much to you.
"I like the sound of the cock which is cock-a-doodle. Every morning, I will wake up with the help of my cock. Without my cock, I will sleep till very late. The cock is also breeded by me and so it is very special to me. It was bought for me during my seventh birthday. The cock is also my favourite animal. I was told from my mom that I were born during the cock year. It adds to my love to cock."
