Huo Yuanjia (FEARLESS)

Just watched Huo Yuanjia just now with Vincent, Aiman, Pang Boon and Jason (hope I got his name right...quiet guy..at least for tonight lah).

It was EXCELLENT!

Been such a long time since I'd watched a good kungfu show! I'm so glad Jet Li decided to do this show! I mean, compared to all the previous Hollywood crap that he starred in, this show brought him back to his original roots as a Chinese wushu exponent! I mean, seeing him with his pigtail, and the Chinese robes with the Mandarin collars just reminds me for his Wong Fei Hong, Fang Shi Yu days!

He really acted really well, and portrayed the character of Huo Yuanjia really well! From reckless, only-concerned-with-becoming-the-best-in-Tianjin, to a calm, composed wushu practitioner in the end...Jet Li did it all very well.

I loved the bone-crunching (and this I mean LITERALLY) action, and the cool weapon fighting scenes (reminded me of my Soul Caliber 3)! Definitely money well-spent...everyone should go and catch it too! Don't miss it ok? No matter what the reviews say...if you like a good kungfu flick, this is about as good as it gets! I mean, not Jackie Chan, comical kungfu, but TRUE Jet Li (李连杰) style fighting! Absolutely riveting!

I enjoyed my Chinese New Year this year...spent some time with new friends, and gambled a bit, and actually won a little...so not that bad lor. Haha...still believe that I should not gamble...just not cut out for it lah...did enjoy my mahjong game though...won $7. Haha...small win, small win...

I really should get to sleep now...tomorrow must get to Aunt May's place for lunch...think I confirm will be late...hahaha..

Night!

my colour

Xing Jian, your true color is Orange!

You're a bold, confident orange. A warm, powerful color that indicates a strong, welcoming personality, orange is the mark of people who are social and extroverted by nature. Vibrant, with an upbeat attitude, you have a bright, inviting demeanor. Energetic and fun-loving, you're a real friend-magnet. Your easy charm and unassuming manner make you the sort of person people want to meet and get to know better. Well-rounded and fun to be around, you enjoy helping others, so it's no surprise that orange also symbolizes attraction. Orange is an extraordinary color — for an extraordinary person.

Hmm...okay lor...sorta correct I guess...

lectures were a blast today!

Today I had two lectures, and both were excellent!

GEK1049 - Introduction to Narrative

Hmm, what I thought would be a very Lit-ish module, is turning out to be more than that. We started the lecture with movie clips, music videos, classical paintings, pop songs and not forgetting the usual spattering of pompous terminology that the world of academia is famous for.

I was a little late for the lecture (5 mins), but it looks to be pretty interesting I think...I hope I get a ton of non-FASS classmates, so that can stand out abit... (yes yes, evil and pragmatic..but I couldn't care less)

6 hour break

Spent it having lunch, and trying to read my readings...not that successful, which is why I will be making up for it tmr...studying late in school tmr night! ^_^ Made a new friend before my 4pm lecture...a cute and bubbly girl called Lai Yee. Nice to meet you Lai Yee!

SC2212 - Sociology of Deviance

This was a little embarrassing. I made Vi and Lai Yee walk all the way to LT8, when it was actually in LT9...felt so bad..and because we made such a long detour, we ended up sitting right up in front.

Fortunately, after excessive rubbing in about how silly I was from Lai Yee (she can be unforgiving, and I'd only JUST met this woman ok?), it turns out that our lecturer has no tolerance for technology, and will not be utilising the IVLE at all! He insists on lecture with no PowerPoint, and we as students will have to LISTEN and TAKE NOTES! Talk about old school sia...after he announced this...Darren grudingly took out his foolscap pad...hahaha

Well, Vi was thrilled, and Lai Yee was sorta glad (after a some convincing from me) she sat in front, cos' then she wouldn't fall asleep...haha...it was refreshing to challeng myself from stoning, and practising picking out all the important points. Been a long while since I last did that...heh

He drones a little, but generally he makes very pointed, and pertinent comments about our country, and the world in general. Highly entertaining, but not recommended for people with minds the size of pin heads or minds so narrow that Kate Moss wouldn't fit inside.

Tuition at Central Green

Started a new tuition assignment at Central Green condo! So NEAR! Yay! She only wants me to teach English Comprehension, and it's only once a week, one and a half hours each time...
Student is a Primary 5 Taiwanese boy who only came to Singapore last June...

very clever, very cute, has a knack for bargaining (according to his mom)...

His mother is the nicest woman (though I sense an air of "don't-mess-with-me-cos-i-got-secret-powers" about her), and super polite and warm.

Tutorial Balloting Results

For once, I actually got EVERYTHING I planned for! Amazing! I was pleasantly surprised man...haha...not bad not bad...

This semester had regenerated some of the hope which I lost last semester after the terrible war with the World of CORS dragon...

clean room

Whew...I just finshed cleaning up my room! I never realised that I really had so much rubbish lying around. Threw alot of nonsense out today...so happy.

I found alot of old postcards and greeting cards from my friends. Read through most of them...brought back alot of memories. Haha. My JC period garnered the most posties...alot of emo stuff written back and forth...alot of caring friends I have...lucky got so much support during JC...
(I never knew, in fact, I do not remember feeling that bad about not getting into Student Council..haha...I had so SO many posties telling me not to give up, and to look on the bright side, and that council wasn't that big a deal...haha)

There's alot of dust in my room...I have no idea why...but after alot of wiping and sweeping, I managed to settle most of the cleaning...now there is so much less dust! Yay! Haha.

I just realised that I am entitled to a complimentry 1 year NUS Guild House membership with my DBS NUS Debit card...I hope I can still apply for it! Haha...then I will have access to a gym 5 days a week liao! Woohoo! Can gym with Vincent (good thing) and Aidan (may not be good thing...he'll bully me I think..*shudders*)...

Well, I am off to watch Tiramisu now...sleeping early tonight! Tmr will be gymming, then early breakfast at YIH! First lecture starts tmr! Woohoo! Finally...school starts!

~=Week 0=~

School start liao! My last weekend of freedom wasn't too bad...I spent it quite well. Let's see...on Saturday, went shopping with Mom! Bought tons of stuff...haha...mostly clothes for her and myself as well...haha. Decadence!

Nice right? Mom bought me this cute wrist rest! My bro got one too...his was a pig..and mine a hippo! Haha. Kawaii!

After that, headed down to Mish's place to cook dinner. Merv did steak (Medium Rare...just the way I like it) and I taught Mish how to prepare simple vegetable pasta. Was pretty amazed that this was the first time Mish was cooking, doing grocery shopping and everything...hahaha...

(Should've been more patient with her...but well, she's had too many people be nice to her liao...so can be nasty once in awhile...wahaha)

So dinner was not too bad...for the first time, I managed to pull off an excellent al dente spaghetti! Quite proud of myself! Haha...after dinner, we amused ourselves with MTV's range of silly, and absolutely wacky shows, and we played Scrabble and Hotel (Mish's favourite...I hate it though) too!

After some time, Hotel got boring too, and so we decided to set Mish's hamster on Le Grand...but she was a good little hamster and with absolutely no destructive tendencies at all. The three of us who had hoped for some pseudo-Godzilla/King Kong moment from her, were utterly disappointed. Ah well...another time I guess...haha

Well, today (as in Monday, it's 0201hrs now, so technically shud be yesterday) was most unfortunate for me...my big toe had a conversation with a concrete step. It lasted the whole of one second, and of course, my left foot's big toe could not out-talk the concrete step, and came away from the entire encounter missing a bit of skin as well...

Ugh...bled all the way to school, and stupid Vincent made me wait for half an hour! DO you hear me? Hmmph...next time I'm making you wait lor...bleah...well, we had lunch, and planned timetables and I even crashed Philo lecture....for fun and 'bo-liao-ness'! Hahaha...

Commune With Nature!

Today was an EXCELLENT DAY! Went to MacRitchie and hiked and experienced the HSBC TreeTop Walk! Let's see, total of five people went on this 'adventure', Vincent, Amos, James, Aiman and me! (Ignore the Magic card on the right...I just felt very like GREEN mana today...so put it in for this post..haha)

As usual Vincent was late, but we all forgave him and started on the fairly long trek to the suspension bridge.

As we walked through MacRitchie, I realised that it had been such a long time since I last visited this place (last time was during Sec4 I think...cross-country). There are really sooo many things to see, and the trees and everything. The rainforest is truly a beautiful place. There were many animals like squirrels, monkeys, and terrapins/turtles too! Super 'nature' kinda of feeling sia...

On the left is Amos and James (their backs at least), and on the right you see (from right), Vincent, Aiman and half of me! Haha...this part was still in the main part of the forest, so we're all just hiking through the forest, looking at the fauna and trading stories about days in the Army when we had to go through training in the jungle. I guess, some things about Singaporean guys is that no matter who we are, and what we did/do, we can always ALWAYS talk about our NS experience...and we can do it over, and over, and over, and OVER again...wahahahaha. It's a scourge upon all Singaporean women that cannot be removed! They are doomed to listen to these stories as long as they continue to have male Singaporean friends. Heh.

So after about an hour on foot, we have a 'light-at-the-end-of-the-passage' moment as we exit the forest, and walk on abit of road before reaching the suspension bridge! Excitement sia! Finally reached the bridge! Hahaa.... ^_^

So on the bridge, we sorta laze at the entrance and take a picture before actually getting on. Because once you get on the bridge, you cannot turn back...it's a ONE WAY kinda thing...quite disconcerting at first, almost like you get on and if you're going to die, you have no choice or something..haha. Something really funny happened as we were resting for abit at the entrance to the bridge.

This woman did the most Singaporean thing...she saw us sitting around waiting, and she asked, "Excuse me, is there a QUEUE?" All the five of us did our best to keep from laughing...it was just so funny man. First thing that comes to Singaporeans' minds is to queue for something...hahaha.

So we get on the bridge, and sorta hog the center bit for awhile (to the displeasure of a few people), enjoying the view and breathing in the fresh air. There we shared sandwiches (b[r]ought by Vincent) and brownies (baked by yours truly), and took more pictures...truly touristy to the max. Haha.

We finally moved off the bridge and finished the rest of the trek, another 5km back to the main MacRitchie Reservoir, so that makes the entire thing around 10km worth of walking! Hahaha...so healthsome man. Heh. On the way back, we met alot of disgruntled children, and sari-wearing women, and back-packing backpack carrying men. Just some of the strange sights you can find in MacRitchie. Haha...

Oh! There was this group of guys who absolutely refused to help us take a picture! And they outright ignored us and pretended that they did not just hear a group of 5 guys ask them for a favour...Singaporeans amaze me more and more each day man...hahaha.

Here are some photos of the day!

Pretty no? The reservoir is so peaceful and pretty here. Tranquil and full of life...ZEN...

What most of us were thinking by the time we reached the suspension bridge...we're all a bunch of pansies lah...walk abit then complain complain...hahaha... ^_^

This sign says alot...I'm serious! Hahaha...

I stayed up most of the night to bake brownies for Yixin's birthday party! People's birthday on the last day of the year...quite sia...hahaha. This batch was one of my better batches...quite pleased with myself. The sad thing was, no one really ate any of it...made me so sad...haiz...

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

After the party, went to Paul's place and together with Nicholas and Xinwei, we had all this food! Haha...eat until feel very VERY unhealthy and FAT! Haha...but the company was excellent and the food was superb. Thoroughly enjoyed myself.

After dinner, we watched British comedies and laughed ourselves silly...then chatted the night away lor. Nic and XW went home earlier..around 515am lidat, but I stayed on and slept in till 1pm (so pig-pig man). Paul fried noodles (really not bad leh...he can cook..haha)! Then just laxed somemore until 320pm I think...then I head for home lor...

On the whole, not a bad New Year. Relatively happy and full and satisfied. I am glad for all the friends I have made this year, and for the friends I already have...THANK YOU FOR CONTRIBUTING TO THE PERSON THAT I AM.

Of course my family also...especially my brother..who has...well, let's say we're closer...a little...^_^
