Do these new land cards from Ravinca have the newest look or what? Very abstract right? Like so not longer in Dominaria or Otaria or even Kamigawa...looks so exciting, I can't wait to see what other new and interesting things are in store for the latest set from the folks at Wizards at the Coast.

One more test...just to be sure...

I really like Naruto so let's just see if I can get the text to go where I want it to.

It's a little strange though...confusing...Image hosted by Photobucket.comis this really how i envision things? Hmm...must experiment more....

Kage Bushin no Jutsu!!!

Free photohosting is so nice....finally...

Okay, I'm trying out this Photobucket thingy, so let's hope it works. I dunno how it's supposed to apprear, but I just hope it does...so here goes...

You should be able to see a beautiful stained-glass window below right?

Excellent!!! I now know how to incorporate pictures into my individuals posts...all by myself somemore...so proud! Haha...

Should make my blog more interesting from now on I hope...I will keep on learning and experimenting with this strange world of HTML...it's fun trying it out and discovering how things works...sometimes purposely sutdying the thing takes the fun out of this thing called DISCOVERY>

PERTH sucks...the movie, not the State.

So I met with Russell at LIDO to watch Perth. Well, to be absolutely honest, I wasn't that keen on it, but the reviews were pretty good (as in like, everyone said how Lim Kay Tong was like SOOO good in it or something to that extent lah), so we decided to give it a go anyway. Well, in a nutshell, the movie SUCKED! I mean I usually support local productions and enjoy going to watch them, but this one just did not 'speak' to me as well as previous productions.

Lim Kay Tong's character was somewhat 'plasticky' and he seemed very stiff in his actions. For instance, certain scenes which were supposed to convey specific emotions just did not come across that powerfully. I mean, I know I was supposed to feel and understand the anger and frustration, but Lim Kay Tong just did not speak to me. I felt somewhat disappointed. Having watched his performance in namely Growing Up, I've always felt he was an excellent actor and excelled in his craft. However, this time round in Perth, his acting seemed lackluster. I just wished he could have emoted everything better, like really draw the audience into his world.

The other minus point about the show was that it had a lot of violence, but the violence was overdone and slightly exaggerated. It seemed as though I should be feeling the brutality of the massacre, but at certain points it turned out rather comical, or not realisitic enough. In the end, a lot of people died and we never really did get to see Perth at all.

There were of course scenes in the show which I did enjoy. For instance, the constant reference to the local way of speaking was extremely entertaining and real. The numerous Hokkien expletives was REALLY how people (the kinds of Ah Bengs and lowly educated people lah, at least that's what they called themselves in the movie) like that speak in Singapore. There were many cultural references like National Service and Reservist training which was super funny to what. There was even some political referencing...but I won't mentioned that here. Russell was super quick to pick of out the references, and I thought it extremely funny, and telling of the political scene in our country...heh

Now that I'm done with my movie review, let's get on with the post proper...

So Russ and I went to the BigO for dessert (OH! WHAT SIN!) and talked till the shop closed. I really enjoyed my evening with him lah, it's been so long and we really had a lot to talked about. He said he really enjoyed himself and it had been a long time since he had such a good conversation with anyone. I told him I wished we could talk somemore, but he said we got talk a lot what...well, I guess I just miss al my friends lah. I think next time I ask my old friends out, I'll try to force them into a whole day affair...haha, then we can really catch up.

Anyway, Russel, you really must post on the tag board can? You say you got read my blog, but you never post anything wan!

ATTENTION all readers of my blog!!! Please take some time to say 'hi' to me by leaving a comment or posting in the chatterbox on the side. Then at least I will know who is still alive or dead mah... haiz...

an extremely annoying sms conversation

I had the most annoying SMS conversation with my friend Eng Liang today. I have never been more amused/pissed/miffed/exasperated/*insert all other emotions bordering on happy/angry* by a person before. And all that through the power of SMSes...so enlightening man. It went like this:

Xing Jian: Hey, come and find us leh, we got seats in Hell liao.

Eng Liang: But we are in heaven. Except yulong in nirvana. we visit u when judgement comes.

XJ: Huh? Heaven? Just come and join us lah...

EL: God will decide when judgement comes, not man.

XJ: *in my mind i'm going WTF!?!?* Stop being and idiot and come and look for us, we got seats for u guys already!

EL: Religion is everyone's concern.

XJ: *???!!!...* Just shut up and get over here now!

EL: Hey where u all? Cant find hell?

XJ: *thinks EL's an idiot* You can't see us? Just open your eyes and look lah!

EL: Angels have no eyes. They r made of light.

At this point, I totally give up (I'm thinking, wow..that msg really takes the cake) and decide that I cannot beat Eng Liang anymore...anyway, I learnt something new about my new friends in NUS. THEY ARE EXTREMELY CRAPPY, especially Eng Liang (but you know I still love you lah hor? Haha!)

Read this...I got it off a website while I was researching for my EL tutorial assignment. It's quite funny. Try to read it without making any mistakes...trust me, you will. Enjoy!

REASONS THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE IS HARD TO LEARN
1) The bandage was wound around the wound.
2) The farm was used to produce produce.
3) The dump was so full that it had to refuse more refuse.
4) We must polish the Polish furniture.
5) He could lead if he would get the lead out.
6) The soldier decided to desert his dessert in the desert.
7) Since there is no time like the present, he thought it was time topresent the present.
8) A bass was painted on the head of the bass drum.
9) When shot at, the dove dove into the bushes.
10) I did not object to the object.
11) The insurance was invalid for the invalid.
12) There was a row among the oarsmen about how to row.
13) They were too close to the door to close it.
14) The buck does funny things when the does are present.
15) A seamstress and a sewer fell down into a sewer line.
16) To help with planting, the farmer taught his sow to sow.
17) The wind was too strong to wind the sail.
18) After a number of injections my jaw got number.
19) Upon seeing the tear in the painting I shed a tear.
20) I had to subject the subject to a series of tests.
21) How can I intimate this to my most intimate friend?

Readings, smeadings...BAH!

It's really quite difficult getting into the groove of school and all that. Readings can be painful when it's been so long since one has configured his brain to read anything. Anyway, I was like trying to do research on my Japanese Studies project (we're supposed to pick a city and analyze one or more aspects on it and how it features in Japan), but I ended up doing character tests from this Naruto website.

(please see the two new buttons in my sidebar...hahaha...it's not too bad. Turns out I like Kakashi and I AM Kabuto...both are very cool, because they are really high-level ninjas in the anime.)

Anyhow, I really need to re-wire my entire system to suit the needs of a hectic university life, it really isn't easy. One of my friends told me that it took him his entire first semester to fully purge the impurities (which we pick up from our stint in the SAF) from his body. How scary is that man? Oh, I've begun playing Guild Wars again, and I must say that I am well on my way to reaching my maximum level! Woohoo!!

The good thing about GW is that you don't pay a monthly subscription, so you can not play for like a few months and it not like you're wasting money or anything like that. I mean, World of Warcraft rocks, but I can't pay that monthly upkeep man. I would probably have to sacrifice it eventually and the entire thing would be one big messy graveyard.

*xj wonders if anyone caught the Magic: The Gathering references there...hmm...*

Dim Sum Dollies and horrors amongst the audience...

Hello everyone! This is my first post from my new laptop (you can see that below)...it's so exciting! Anyway, the keyboard is really small and it's a real challenge to hit all the right keys. But still, I'm still loving it lah...so fun!!!

I went to watch the Dim Sum Dollies on Saturday, it wasn't too bad lah. There were many instances of local references and that's always funny. However, somehow it seemed like this big Teachers' Day Performance (you know, the kind that most Singaporeans would have taken part in/watched in their youth) that just happened to be shown in a high-class theatre like The Esplanade. I mean, it's not like the show was bad, that's just the feeling I got.

In the end, it was still enjoyable and I found the songs very entertaining on the whole. So I give it a 3.5/5 stars!

There was only ONE thing which spoiled the night for me. It was this group of totally uncultured and ill-behaved girls who were watching the Dim Sum Dollies as well. One of the girls actually sat with her feet and the seat if the chair, as if the she were at home? How unbecoming is that?! That still not as bad as the next incident.

During the intermission, the girls decided to head to the bathroom together (as usual), and this girl in a red tube top started to adjust her belt and her cut-offs. I mean, this kind of action is usually no big deal, and I usually would not make such a fuss, but guess what happened? The bloody pulled her cut-offs so low that her buttcrack was actually exposed for a whole, half a second! She was totally unaware if her surroundings! I mean, there are PEOPLE around you know?! The thing that really irritated was the fact the this group of girls thought they were so lady-like, and high-classed and cultured.

THEY ARE FAR FROM THAT...I'm beginning to wonder what girls are being taught in school these days? Or even if school is doing them any good, one would think that the home would at least try to inculcate some proper manners into today's youth...so appalling.

Anyway, trying to get an Internet connection in Yishun is really a pain. I've been trying to get connected, but the connections are either protected, or too weak. How can I leech effectively like that? So annoying man...

One part of our giant, silver durian...The Esplanade..haha

My bro and me

Chong Yii, Mom, and Uncle Kam

The Dim Sum Dollies! Taken from Circle 3, so damn bloddy far can? Ugh...annoyance...but no choice lah...only paid $4 what...special rates!!! Haha

This is my latest toy! The ACER TravelMate 3002WTCi. It's the one where the little dog carries it in it's mouth to it's owner. It's so small and beautiful, who cares if ACER has a not-so-good reputation and that it's not a powerhouse? I mean it's A4-sized can?!?!?! Beat that! Small, but not miniscule. *gush*

lemon 1000, I drink this quite religiously. Okay, not THAT religiously. One could say I'm sort of a backslider...haha.

lemon 1000

In a bottle of plastic, only 500ml,
Absolutely healthsome, but not very much else.
Mostly made of water, lemon juice, sugars and various acids.
GOD forbid you forget the flavourings and natural deposits.
Approximately one thousand milligrams of Vitamin C,
You could hardly need, or want, much else you see.

NUS AS7, Computer Lab

I am currently in the National University of Singapore, Computer Lab. It's terrible...the server is practically crap!

It's unbelievable how I can sit in front of a terminal for over 4 hours and still not get in!!! Argh! I'm going to die already lah...there is no getting in at all. The funny thing is that my friends all say that it hasn;t happened before. What does this mean? I think it just means that we are 'guai lan'...I don't really know how to explain that term in English...hmm...anyone can help?

the NUS server sucks...

the university should really consider upgrading their servers. I mean for all the funding, you would think that they would be able to afford servers which would not fail you when everyone tries to log on to register for their tutorials.

I mean I've been trying to get in the whole morning can? Argh!!!

SO IRRITATING!

Go read this...it's funny.

nothing in particular

There is a certain sense of immense inertia these days. Somehow, I still need to discover how to create that drive and committment. I obviously have issue with creating drive and passion...I just lack pure determination. Sigh...

I can think of so many people who would love to kick my ass right now...and I would totally deserve it. I just don't feel like it. But I know that I cannot be like that...so I shall not!

Did I even make sense just now? I don't know...what do you think? Leave your comments and let me know...feel free to blast/encourage me however you choose...thanks

Hey Jun! This photo is for you...your yandao Amin! Haha...I was looking through your blog and saw that you mentioned him..so this is for you lor! Mwahaha!

The Nature of Language...

I had my first English Language lecture today. I totally enjoyed myself. It's looks to be interesting and cool! She's Portugese and speaks well, but she also looks like she could hex you if you aren't careful. She looks sagely and slightly witchy (in a good way of course)

Anyway, let me share the following conversation which I heard this morning while waiting for the bus, here goes...

Indian woman: Morning!

Chinese woman: Hello...

IW: Today rain very big hor?

CW: Yah, so heavy.

IW: Just now the 811 got go already?

CW: Just now got one go already.

IW: Then got anymore? Got two is it?

CW: No lah, the no more the no more, then the two the two lah!

IW: Huh?! *pauses* Orrh!!! Okay! *smiles*

Funny right? The scary thing is that though I should not have understood a single word, I actually did! Not very encouraging...

First Lecture...

Yesterday celebrated National Day with Ritchie, Michelle and Jun. Picnic and watched fireworks by the water at The Esplanade. Ran into Nat and Jamie too! Sat together and talked rubbish as young people tend to do...

Had my first lecture today...not too bad. Hurrah for me...

Tomorrow's lecture is at 0800hrs...early early early!!!

Starburst!!!

See the many people not caring about the traffic police and just walking on the road? Everyone's rushing to get home...so crowded.

Green, red, orange...smoke and pretty colours!

Quite impressed with my phone's image quality..heh

Fireworks!

The crazy group of people who went to the Esplanade to jostle and squeeze with everyone just to catch a 5 minute fireworks show...HA HA HA...

Ain't I just happy to see you, ay? HAHA

Shades? Damn my glasses...maybe I should try contacts?

Hmm, I'm feeling slightly narcissistic today...haha

Just in case everyone forgets what I look like. This shot was taken in KL...shopping was a blast..haha

mindless ramblings

Let's see, what have I been up to the past few days. Not too much really. Just a gym session, a book fair, a movie and dinner with friends. I think I'm beginning to get the hang of the idea of working out at Cali gym at Raffles. I could really get used to the nice environment, especially when I visit during the off-peak periods. I mean, like that I can really get any machine as and when I want. So nice.

My body's aching now..too long never workout. My mom called me a wuss and said that it's good to ache. She said something about the body purging toxins or something. I guess when parents decide to go all 'sagely' and 'superior' on you, it usually works. Ah well, more motivation! Lose weight, get healthy and hopefully get a set of abs! Haahaa.

I then met Yixin for a by invitation only book sale. Super cheap can? She bought $200+ worth of books for only $43! I spent $21 on 5 books and a notebook that had my star sign on it (what?! I couldn't resist ok?).

All that was yesterday. Today I met Paul for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory...it was great except for the parts where Burton kept flashing back to Wonka's past and his father. I mean that never happened in the book, so I felt it was totally redundant. I had read reviews commenting on that and how it was pointless, and now I totally agree. On the whole it was great, and I really enjoyed it. However, Paul did make an interesting comment. Compared to Chocolat (and both shows had plenty of chocolate in them), we did not feel hungry for chocolate after the show. And I distinctly remember feeling the extreme craving for chocolate after watching Chocolat though. Interesting... I think it's because the portrayal of chocolate in Chocolat was more sensuous and alluring, whereas in Choc Factory, it was more fantastic and abstract.

After the show, it was aimless roaming of Funan Centre where we met up with Nicholas. We then had dinner at Crystal Jade Kitchen with Xinwei too. It was nice..four friends who hadn't met up for a long time, talking about blending noisy little children, and how Singaporean Literature can make a person hurl at times, and how scholars can NOT have a mind of their own. These topics constituted the bulk of our over-dinner repartee (did I use this word right? hmm...) After dinner activities involved heading over to Essential Brew where we had tea. Alas, everyone ('cept for me) had much to comment about their teas. There was general displeasure amongst the four tea drinkers and that was too bad. I did run into my OG mate from NUS (she's working there), so embarrassing...somehow got the feeling she was trying to avoid me.

Then Paul decided to not come over to my place. I was looking forward to some heart-to-heart somemore lor, then he zhong4 se4 qing1 you3 and went to meet David instead. So terrible...

I"M DISAPPOINTED PAUL!

...okay lah...I understand, you can come over some other time then.

the mindless ramblings will end now...nitez...

school and everything else...actually, just school.

sorry sorry....it's been so long since I last posted anything. Then again, who am I apologising to? It's not like I have millions of fans angry that I haven't updated them on the ongoings in my life. Anyway, Uni life is a doozy. I signed up for O-week organised by the Arts Club in NUS, and it's been like this gigantic class reunion from all the schools I've ever been to. De La Salle, SJI, SAJC and even OCS...sheesh. I realised that I've made many friends these past 21 years and they remember me too. It's a little heartwarming, yet scary at the same time. I mean, when they approach me I don't know what to say...

I mean, I've grown to hate the following QUESTION and ANSWER:

Q: "Hi! How have you been?" *look of concern and super fake smile*

A: "Oh, I'm fine..." *customary response that parries ALL probing attacks that may reveal you may not be as fine as you make yourself out to be*

It's so annoying to go through this 'ritual' and yet though I bitch, moan and whine about it...I am guilty of it as well. THE SHAME!!! Anyway, I guess I'll just have to deal with it. I mean you don't tell a person you haven't met in 5-6 years that you're emotionally unstable, gay, mentally unsound (not that I'm in any of these states, well...maybe one of them, but go figure...haha) and expect them to sympathise. You just don't do things like that...societal norms do not permit such outbursts.

I'm also trying to decide whether or not I should go for Orientation Week activities today. The OG has been great and I really like them, but there's laziness and general sian-ness (this means boredom in Hokkien) in me now...inertia...ugh...so much inertia...

I think I'll skip the day's activities and go down to stay overnight tonight. It's fun staying over with people. It's been a long time since I did the whole sleep-over-in-school thing. So exciting!
